Odyssey Shark Expedition to South Africa - January 2011 for 2 weeks..
Odyssey is delighted to offer this amazing expedition to South Africa. This is the "trip of a lifetime!".
The expedition will be run in conjunction with Sport Diver magazine and places will be strictly limited to 12 divers.
The expedition takes in some of the worlds best and most exhilarating diving!
Gansbaai in the Western Cape offers reliable and adrenalin-fuelled access to great white sharks. Feeding on the seals of Dyer Island throughout the winter months, they then come closer to the in-shore sandbanks during summer. Free diving within a safety cage brings you face-to-face with these majestic creatures, while a resident marine biologist explains the challenges of their threatened existence.
The village of Umkomaas in KwaZulu-Natal is your portal to the tiger sharks of Aliwal Shoal – starting with an exhilarating surf entry from the beach. This is a drift dive like no other, completed with highly experienced guides whose local knowledge has been built over the past ten years.
Sodwana Bay in northern Zululand provides you with the opportunity to dive tropical reefs that fulfil every expectation. Situated off a remote shoreline, close to the border with Mozambique, over twenty dive sites offer stunning underwater structures, beautiful coral gardens, endless echelons of reef fish and a constant stream of larger, pelagic visitors.
These are just some of the dives that can be undertaken by members of this fantastic expedition. Photographers will be in seventh heaven. There will a number of experienced guides on the expedition that will show you how to get that showing shot of the sharks that is the envy of every underwater photographer.
In addition, the expedition will take in a safari and other land based activities that will give any adventurer the experience of a lifetime.
This expedition must not be missed. Odyssey can offer training specific for this trip, through the coveted PADI Shark Specialty Course, which will be available for those divers that really want to "live this experience".
